Western Washington University is Bellingham’s very own public university. It is the northernmost university in the contiguous United States and was founded in 1893. Western has over 200 academic programs from anthropology to gender studies. Today there are roughly 16,000 students attending Western. The school’s athletic teams are appropriately named the Vikings and compete nationally in NCAAs Division II.
